Sometimes there are questions that arise from a very deep place in the heart.
When someone we love dies, we can feel sadness, fear, and even ask ourselves:“Does this mean I will never see them again?”
Maybe you have lost a grandparent, a relative, a friend, or someone very special. Perhaps you still think about that person and wish you could hug them one more time.
Jesus knows that pain. He knows how difficult a farewell can be. But He also wants us to know something very important:for those who trust in Him, death does not have the last word.
Is death really the end?
The Bible speaks to us of a wonderful hope.
In1 Thessalonians 4:16we read:
“For the Lord himself will come down from heaven… and the dead in Christ will rise first.”
This means that a day will come when Jesus will return and those who died belonging to Christ will be resurrected.
Death may seem like a final goodbye from our human perspective, but God sees something much greater.
For those who are in Christ, there isresurrection, eternal life, and hope.
Jesus himself said:
I am the resurrection and the life; he who believes in me, though he may die, shall live.John 11:25
Jesus understands our tears
Jesus never said we would not feel sadness.
In fact, when his friend Lazarus died, the Bible shows us something very special:
Jesus wept.
He understands what we feel when we miss someone.
Therefore, having faith does not mean that we will never cry. We can cry, miss, and remember those we love while continuing to trust in God.
Our sadness can exist alongside our hope.
Will we see those we love again?
The Bible teaches us that those who belong to Christ have the hope of resurrection and of living eternally with God.
Therefore, when two people have placed their hope in Jesus, death does not have to be seen as a goodbye forever.
We can trust that the day will come when God will gather His people.
The Bible describes that future in a beautiful way:
“He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death.”Revelation 21:4
Imagine a place where there are no more hospitals, funerals, illnesses, or farewells.
There will be no more tears caused by death.
There will be no more fear of losing someone.
We will be before God enjoying the life He prepared for His children.
Can Jesus help me when I miss someone?
Yes.
Jesus can accompany you even in those moments when no one seems to understand exactly what you feel.
You can talk to Him.
You can say to Him:
“Jesus, I miss this person very much.”
You can tell Him that you are afraid.
You can tell Him that you are sad.
You can even tell Him that you have questions you still don’t understand.
Jesus is not upset when we speak honestly. He wants us to draw our hearts closer to Him.
When we trust in Jesus, our hope does not depend solely on our feelings. It is based on a much greater promise:
Jesus conquered death.
And because He lives, those who belong to Him also have the hope of eternal life.
When the heart is afraid
Losing someone can bring up many questions.
Sometimes our heart begins to fill with fear.
We may ask ourselves:
What will happen to me?
Where is the person who died?
Am I going to lose other people I love too?
When those thoughts come, remember that you don't have to face them alone.
When you are afraid you can:
Talk to Jesus.Tell Him exactly how you feel.
Listen to the Word of God.His promises can bring peace to our hearts.
Remember that Jesus conquered death.The tomb could not stop Him.
Trust in His love.Even if we don't understand everything now, we can trust Him.
Share your sadness.Talk to your parents, relatives, or a Christian person you trust.
Our hope is not in pretending that we are never sad.
Our hope is in knowing thatJesus is with us even when we cry.
The promise of a future without goodbyes
There is something beautiful that Christians look forward to.
Jesus will return.
Death will be defeated once and for all.
God will be with His people and a life that never ends will begin.
Maybe today you miss someone very much.
Maybe you still cry when you remember their voice, their smile, or the moments you shared together.
You can keep those memories with love.
But you can also lift your eyes to Jesus and remember:
death does not have the last word. Jesus does.

With Jesus, death does not have the last word: we have hope of resurrection and eternal life.
Prayer for children and families
Lord Jesus:
Sometimes I feel sad when I think about the people who are no longer with me.
There are things I still don’t understand and sometimes I am afraid.
But I want to trust in you.
Thank you because you conquered death and because you give us hope of eternal life.
Forgive my sins and help me to draw my heart closer to you every day.
When I am sad, remind me that I can talk to you.
Help me to trust your promises and to remember that your love never ends.
I want to follow you and always live close to you.
Amen.
