Palm Sunday is a wonderful opportunity to teach children that Jesus is a different kind of King. He did not arrive surrounded by great armies or riding a powerful horse. Jesus entered Jerusalem on a donkey, while people welcomed Him joyfully, placing cloaks and branches on the road.
Through this Bible class, children will discover that Jesus came with love to save us and that we can honor Him every day with our words, decisions, and actions.
This lesson is ideal to share in Sunday school, children's church meetings, or during a special time of Bible learning with family.
One day, Jesus entered the city of Jerusalem riding on a donkey.
When people saw Him coming, they were filled with joy. Many laid their cloaks on the ground and palm branches on the road to welcome Him.
As Jesus went forward, the crowd shouted:
'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'
The people celebrated Jesus' arrival as King.
However, Jesus had not come to fight or conquer by force. His mission was much greater: He had come to save us.
This story reminds us that Jesus is our King and that His love transforms the way we live.
For children to understand thatJesus is our King, who came with love to save us, and that we can show our love for Him by following His teachings.
At the end of the class, we aim for the children to be able to:
Recognize Jesus as King.
Remember how He was received when entering Jerusalem.
Understand that Jesus came with love.
Discover simple ways to honor Him at home and at school.
Learn and remember the phrase: "Jesus is my King and I follow Him.
Matthew 21:9
'Hosanna to the Son of David! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord!'
This verse reminds us of the joy with which people welcomed Jesus when He entered Jerusalem.
To memorize it with the children:
The teacher can say a part of the verse and ask the children to repeat it. Then, everyone can recite it together.
Accompany the words with movements:
Hosannato lift up hands with joy.
Kingto place the hands on the head forming a crown.
The gestures will help the little ones participate and remember the teaching.
When we think of a king, we might imagine a great crown, a palace, or a majestic horse.
But Jesus entered Jerusalem riding on a little donkey.
His arrival teaches us something wonderful: Jesus did not need to prove His greatness through force. He came with a mission of love.
We can explain to children that true courage is not about appearing more important than others, but about living with love and humility.
The crowd spread cloaks and palm branches while celebrating His arrival.
It was a moment full of emotion!
The people shouted "Hosanna!" and recognized Jesus as King.
Just as those people celebrated His arrival, we too can express our joy and gratitude for Jesus.
We can do this when we pray, praise God, and talk about His love.
This is one of the most important teachings of Palm Sunday.
Jesus did not come to fight or to establish His kingdom through violence.
Jesus came to save us.
His love invites us to draw near to Him, trust His words, and learn to live in a way that pleases God.
Being followers of Jesus does not only mean saying that He is our King. It also means striving to live according to what He teaches us.
Children can learn that following Jesus is not something we do only when we go to church.
We can honor Him in the small moments of each day.
At home:
Take a moment to pray.
Listen and obey our parents.
Put into practice the teachings of Jesus.
At school:
Treat our classmates kindly.
Choose to do what is right, even when it is difficult.
Show love and respect towards others.
Invite the children to think of an action they can take during the week to show that they want to follow Jesus.
Remind them that we don't have to do extraordinary things to express our love for Him. We can also honor Him with our everyday decisions.
Jesus is my King and I follow Him.👑
Repeat this phrase together several times during the class.
You can encourage the children to say it with one hand over their heart, remembering that following Jesus means loving Him and living His teachings.
After telling the story, spend a few minutes talking with them.
What animal did Jesus ride into Jerusalem?
What did people place on the road?
What was the crowd shouting when Jesus arrived?
Why do we say that Jesus is our King?
What does the way Jesus entered Jerusalem teach us?
How can we show our love for Jesus at home?
What can we do at school to follow His teachings?
What does it mean to you to say: "Jesus is my King and I follow Him"?
Allow the children to respond in their own words. It is not just about remembering the events, but about helping them relate the biblical teaching to their daily life.
Objective:Help the children imagine how people welcomed Jesus in Jerusalem.

Leaves that represent palm branches.
Development:

Teaching:Jesus was welcomed with joy because people celebrated Him as King.
Objective:Joyfully reinforce that Jesus is our King.
Materials:
Paper palms or simply the children's hands.

Finish by repeating: "Jesus is our King!".
This activity can be accompanied by a time of praise so that the children celebrate Jesus.
Objective:Create a visual reminder of the teaching of Palm Sunday.
Materials:
Green paper.
Writing materials.
Development:
Help the children prepare a palm using the green paper.
Ask them to write the phrase: "Hosanna to the King".
Invite them to show their palms and repeat the phrase of the day: "Jesus is my King and I follow Him.
The children can take their craft home to remember what they have learned and share the story with their family.
The material for this class includes a coloring illustration in which Jesus is shown entering Jerusalem riding a donkey, while people receive Him with palm branches.
Use this image as a visual aid to review the story and remember Matthew 21:9.
While they color, you can ask them: "How do you think the people felt when they saw Jesus arriving?".
Lord Jesus,
Thank you for being my King.
Thank you for loving me and for coming to save us.
I want to learn to follow you every day, listening to your Word and showing your love to the people around me.
Help me obey you, be kind, and do what is right.
I want to follow you always.
Amen.
To finish, invite the children to repeat this declaration:
With God's help, I will live His Word.
And all together, joyfully:
HOSANNA! JESUS IS MY KING!🌿👑
Palm Sunday offers us a special opportunity to remind children that Jesus is not just an important character in the Bible. He is our Savior and King.
Beyond the palms, songs, and activities, the most important thing is for the little ones to discover His love and understand that following Him is also reflected in how we treat others.
As parents and teachers, we can teach them with our words, but also with our example.
When we pray together, show kindness, and choose to do what is right, we help them understand how faith is lived every day.
May this celebration not be just a story that children remember, but an invitation to walk with Jesus and trust in His love.
At Little Ones of the Kingdom, we believe that every teaching of the Bible is an opportunity to sow faith, love, and hope in the hearts of children.
Hosanna! Jesus is our King!
