The crucifixion of Jesus is one of the most important teachings in the Bible. Although it was a moment of great pain, it also shows us how much God loves us and how Jesus taught us to forgive, even in difficult times.
In this children's Bible class, we will learn about Jesus' love and discover how we can share that love with our family, friends, and classmates.
Jesus was taken to a place called Calvary, also known as Golgotha, where He was crucified.
Although Jesus had done nothing wrong, He suffered on the cross. However, in the midst of His suffering, He showed extraordinary love by asking forgiveness for those who were hurting Him.
This story reminds us that Jesus died out of love for us and that we can follow His example by loving and forgiving others.
For children to understand that Jesus died on the cross because He loves us and to learn to demonstrate that love through forgiveness, obedience, and good deeds.
Luke 23:33
And when they came to the place called Calvary, they crucified Him...
This passage reminds us of Jesus' sacrifice and invites us to reflect on His immense love.
When Jesus was taken to Calvary, He experienced very difficult moments. Even though He had committed no sin, He was crucified.
But something wonderful happened: Jesus did not respond with hatred.
Father, forgive them…
How great is the love of Jesus!
Even while suffering, Jesus continued to show love and forgiveness.
His example teaches us that loving does not only mean treating well those who love us, but also learning to forgive when someone hurts us.
The great lesson of this story is that Jesus died on the cross because He loves us.
Children can demonstrate Jesus' love through small actions every day.
At home:
Obey your parents.
Treat your siblings with kindness.
Ask for forgiveness when you make mistakes.
At school:
Share with your classmates.
Forgive those who offend you.
Help those in need.
Every small act of love is an opportunity to follow Jesus' example.
Jesus loved me first… I can love too.
Invite the children to repeat this phrase and remember that Jesus' love can be reflected in their words and actions.
Why did Jesus die on the cross?
What did Jesus say when He was being crucified?
What does Jesus teach us about forgiveness?
How can we show love to our family?
What can we do when someone treats us badly?
Allow each child to answer in their own words and share simple examples from everyday life.
1. Activity: The greatest gift
Give each child a small gift or candy and ask them:
How did you feel receiving something without having to do anything to earn it?
Then, explain that today they have learned about the greatest gift: the love Jesus showed by giving His life for us.
2. Craft: The Cross of Love
Materials: paper, crayons, child-safe scissors, and glue.
Make a paper cross.
Decorate it with a heart.
Write inside the heart:Jesus loves me.
Take the craft home to remember the lesson.
3. Bible game: True or False
Read the following statements and ask the children to respond by raising their hand or giving a small jump.
Jesus did something wrong. ❌ False.
Jesus forgave. ✅ True.
Jesus loves us. ✅ True.
You can also reinforce learning with the word search about the crucifixion and the coloring illustration included in the class material.
Dear Jesus:
Thank you for loving us so much and for giving your life for us.
Thank you for teaching us to forgive and love others.
Help us obey your Word, share with those around us, and have a heart full of love.
We want to follow you and live each day according to your teachings.
In your name, Jesus. Amen.
Teaching children about the crucifixion of Jesus is an opportunity to talk to them about the greatest love.
When sharing this story, avoid strong details and focus on three fundamental truths:love, forgiveness, and sacrifice.
Remember that the goal is not to create fear or sadness, but to help little ones understand how much Jesus loves them and how they can reflect that love in their daily lives.
