Read miracleDiscover the surprising story of Jesus and the fruitless fig tree, a biblical lesson for children and families about the power of faith, prayer, and the…
Have you ever seen a tree full of green leaves but with no fruit?
From afar it may look beautiful, strong, and full of life. However, when you get closer, you find it has nothing to offer.
Something surprising happened when Jesus was walking with his disciples near Jerusalem.
One morning, Jesus felt hungry and saw a fig tree by the road. The tree had leaves, so he approached looking for some fruit, but found none.
Then something unexpected happened…
Jesus declared that the fig tree would never bear fruit again. And the tree withered!
According toMatthew 21:18-22, the fig tree withered immediately, leaving the disciples amazed. The parallel account inMark 11:12-25explains that they saw the tree dried up from the roots the next morning.
The disciples marveled at what had happened.
Jesus took that moment to teach them about the importance of having faith, trusting God, and praying with belief.
But this story also invites us to reflect on our own lives.
Are we bearing good fruit or just pretending to have it?
This story reminds us of important truths for our Christian life:
True faith trusts in God:even when we face situations that seem impossible.
God desires that we bear good fruit:a life of faith should reflect love, kindness, patience, and obedience.
Prayer is powerful:we can approach God with confidence, knowing that He hears our requests.
God can transform our hearts:with His help, we can grow spiritually every day.
Faith does not mean that God will automatically fulfill all our desires. It means trusting in His power, His wisdom, and His will, even when things do not happen as we expect.
Imagine a large tree, full of beautiful leaves, but without a single fruit.
Now think about our life...
We can say that we love Jesus, know biblical stories, and even pray every day.
But what happens if we do not treat others with love?
Jesus wants our faith to also be reflected in what we do.
Every time we forgive, share, help, or speak with kindness, we are showing good fruits.
What fruit would you like to start cultivating today?
Remember that no one is perfect. We all need to learn, grow, and allow Jesus to transform our hearts.
We can put this teaching into practice with small actions:
Help our parents and siblings with joy.
Share our toys or belongings generously.
Forgive those who have hurt us.
Speak to others with respect and love.
Pray with faith when we face difficulties.
Ask Jesus to help us become better every day.
Small acts of love can become beautiful fruits of our faith!
👉“A faith that lives in the heart bears fruits of love in our actions.”
Lord Jesus,
thank you because every day you teach me to trust you more.
I don't want my faith to be just nice words.
I want my heart to produce fruits that reflect your love.
Help me to be patient, generous, obedient, and kind to others.
When I am afraid or face difficulties, teach me to pray and trust in your will.
Transform my heart so that my life may be a blessing to my family and those around me.
Amen.
This Bible story is perfect for:

Family activity:Draw a tree with five fruits. On each one, write a word: love, patience, kindness, forgiveness, and generosity.
During the week, try to perform an action that represents each fruit.
At the end, talk about how you can continue growing in your faith.
Remember! The most beautiful thing about following Jesus is not just talking about His love, but sharing it with others.
